Reimagining learning, wellbeing, and belonging

About Huckleberries

Huckleberries is reimagining learning, wellbeing, and belonging. We are creative, courageous, and rooted in nature – with a simple vision, to transform young lives by nurturing their capacity to thrive.

Our nature-based learning and wellbeing community helps young people grow in curiosity, resilience, self-awareness, and  authenticity. Within a safe and supportive space, full of possibility, they can explore, connect and flourish through:

  • The Nurture Farm – a place of care and healing for young people facing emotional challenges
  • The Wild Learning Centre – a purposeful journey of discovery, growth and learning
  • The Community Hub – a space for connection, belonging, and opportunity
  • Forest School – where children come together after school, to explore, create, and connect with nature

We welcome young people experiencing or recovering from emotional challenges or trauma, those who find school overwhelming, underwhelming, or simply not their path, as well as wider community members who want to be part of something extraordinary.

Learning at Huckleberries extends across meadows, woods, yurt, and stables – guided by curiosity and grounded in wellbeing. It’s purposeful, competency-based, passion-led, and joyful.

We are deeply committed to social equity. No family should face barriers to helping their child thrive. That’s why our Nurture Farm offers free places for young people in need, and our Wild Learning Centre provides bursaries to ensure alternative learning pathways are accessible to all.

At Huckleberries, extraordinary is our starting point – and we are proud of what we are creating together.

Nurture Farm

For the remainder of the week (Tuesday to Friday) our Nurture Farm offers free placements for young people aged 5-12 who are facing emotional wellbeing challenges. Young people attend one day a week for 24 weeks, and occasionally longer.

Placements are fully funded for 24 weeks for children in need, who have no additional funding or support.

We also welcome flexi-school, EHCP or EOTAS referrals, funded by the child’s school or Local Authority, where we can meet their needs.

Wild Learning Centre

Education that’s alive, bold, and rooted in nature.
Learning is purposeful, learner-led, and full of creativity. From passion-driven projects to skill-building workshops, young people explore, grow, and thrive across arts, sciences, and life skills – all within a supportive, nature-based environment.

Community Hub

A vibrant network of families, volunteers, and local partners, all growing together.

Connection, support, and real-world opportunities happen here. From peer circles to hands-on volunteering, families and young people alike discover that together, we can thrive.

Nurture boost schools programme

Each Monday, the Nurture Farm becomes a place of belonging for children who need extra emotional support. In partnership with over 30 schools, we offer free six-weekly programmes where small groups, accompanied by a school staff member, spend a full day with us in nature.

Through care, compassion, and the power of nature and belonging, children rediscover their strengths – building confidence, resilience, connection, and joy.

Forest School

When the school bell rings, children are ‘Wild about Huckleberries’ – where 5–11 year olds come together to explore, create, and connect with nature, animals, and each other. Play-led learning, campfires, den-building, forest crafts, and storytelling help every child grow in confidence, resilience, and joy.

Charitable Incorporated Organisation

Initially established as a Community Interest Company in 2019, Huckleberries became a registered Charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) in 2024. From the very beginning, our purpose has been to serve children and young people, supporting their emotional wellbeing, and educational journeys.

As a mental health and education charity, we recognise the growing challenges that children and young people face, both in schools and in their wider communities. Our work is centred on creating safe, supportive, and nurturing environments where they can build resilience, strengthen self-esteem, and develop the tools they need to thrive, and re-engage in purposeful, passion-led learning.

Huckleberries is a Trauma-Informed Organisation, meaning that our staff are trained to understand and respond sensitively to the impact of trauma. We place relationships, trust, and emotional safety at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that every child and young person we meet feels heard, valued, and empowered.

Our animals

Every day, our young people take shared responsibility for caring for our animals, making sure their needs are met. In doing so, they learn compassion, attentiveness, and collaboration, growing their generosity and kindness toward others, and themselves.

Our farm family includes pygmy goats, an affectionate Golden Guernsey, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, a loving border collie, occasional staff dogs, and our friendly farm cat – all ready to be part of their learning.

"I’ve seen her light turn back on"

– Parent

"Its been so fun coming here. I learnt lots of things like how to make a fire and nettle fritters, and enjoyed being outdoors. I've built more of a friendship with everyone and enjoy playing with them back at school too.

– Schools Programme – Year 5 child

"I learnt that I should be proud of being me"

– Year 5 child

"This wonderful little place has truly given the children a chance to be themselves. It has opened-up opportunities for them and given them a new perspective on life and who they are. Thank you!”

– ELSA

"I enjoyed animal care with the goats. We sweep the poo, get them food and brush them. My favourite goat is Angus, he's 7 months old, eats alot and chills, and that makes me feel relaxed and calm.

– Schools Programme – Year 5 child

“At a time where there has been so much stress, this oasis of calm has been such therapy”

– Parent

"you have created the most wonderful space for little people. It was so special watching our little angry/quiet ones become so happy/chatty"

– Teacher

"I love the goats and the hammocks. Its really relaxing and you get to listen to all the different noises in the countryside. Huckleberries is calm and hidden in the middle of the forest. The teachers are really kind and teach you different skills.
